JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Chairman of Cipinang Rice Main Market Cooperative (KKPIBC) Zulkifli Rasyid denied the statement of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) on the matter rice broth surplus or national surplus.
That’s because, he said, rice stocks had been running low in Cipinang Main Rice Market since August 2022.
“We, as market players, know that the surplus should be bigger. But in reality, starting from last August, rice stocks have been decreasing and are running out until now,” Pataka said in a virtual discussion, Tuesday (29/11/2022) .
Indeed, Zulkifli said, rice stockpiles would have been critical between December 2022 and February 2023. Because, he said, Bulog’s rice stocks were only about 625,000 tons.
“I think it’s not really enough to face the end of the year until next February. Why? Because the prices are now continuously growing, while the rice arriving today from the regions is practically non-existent,” he explained.
Therefore, he encouraged Perum Bulog to supply rice immediately, even if it had to be imported.
“The only stock that’s helping at the moment is Bulog itself, which is releasing existing stock. But the existing stock doesn’t seem excessive, it’s very worrying. So the only thing to do is import it,” he added. he said.

Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) ensured that the availability of rice in the country was in normal conditions, there was no shortage or scarcity.
The current increase in rice prices is due to annual factors because every December and January the price increases.
Even so, rice prices will experience a slump from February to March 2023 so that prices return to normal. The reason is that around that time, peasants began to enter the main crop.
