More than ever, New York parents must make difficult choices about the care of their children. Because, if accessibility problems arise elsewhere in the United States, few cities experience them as serious as New York.
With the exception of the richest, New Yorkers struggle to find solutions for child care. Because the average price of all existing solutions – from crèches to preschool services to childminders – “has skyrocketed since 2017,” explain The New York Times.
Some are willing to work more to pay exorbitant prices – sometimes landing a second job – others, particularly women, are forced to leave their jobs or reduce their working hours. Those who cannot find an acceptable solution even end up moving.
