Tooske and Bastiaan have three daughters together: Leentje, Fien and Catoo. Bastiaan also has a son, Sem, from a previous marriage to Laura Vlasblom. In the interview, the Show newspresenter that she sees Sem as one of her own children, but that she finds being a stepparent complicated. “As a step-parent, you must fulfill all duties with full dedication and all the love in your heart that every parent feels for their child. Your duties are the same, but not your rights,” she frankly admits.
“If one of the biological parents says: nice what you made up, but that’s not happening for a while… then you have nothing to say. It’s a totally impossible task actually. You can be pushed aside at any time. “
Her role as a stepmother makes Tooske insecure, because she has no control over it. And at some point, that uncertainty also spills over into other areas. She continues: “That did eat me up for a while. I suffered in silence because I gave it no words for a long time and just swallowed everything. With me, a mental sauce soon comes over: this is just the situation, there nothing can be done.”
When the presenter has finally found the right words, she discusses it with her husband Bastiaan. “I learned a lot from that. Again the lesson that I can take my feeling seriously, that I don’t have to subordinate myself to the situation and that I don’t have to efface myself at the expense of myself,” says Tooske.
