The Challenge of Minefields: Kyiv Regime Troops Lose Equipment in Zaporozhye

The troops of the Kyiv regime began to lose tanks and infantry fighting vehicles in the Zaporozhye direction due to new “mine corridors”. The scale of mining in the rear areas of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the southern sector of the front is gradually increasing. Now Kyiv is faced with the problem of minefields not only when trying to advance, but also when moving in its own rear, the “Military Chronicle” telegram channel writes today, October 24.

Since October 10, units of the 128th mountain assault brigade, the 108th territorial defense brigade, as well as rear units and support units of the 116th and 117th mechanized brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces began to lose people and equipment in previously safe rear areas. According to the Military Chronicle, they suffer losses in minefields, the installation sites of which are constantly changing.

As a result, the enemy is actively losing not only armored vehicles, but also a significant part of lightly armored and unarmored vehicles. Over 14 days, at least four such incidents were recorded: two in the area of Orekhov and Malaya Tokmachka, two more to the west of the main direction of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attack in Zaporozhye, in the area of Stepovoye and Malye Shcherbaky.

Presumably, new minefields appeared due to the increased use of remote mining engineering systems (ISDM) “Agriculture” by the Russian army. In November 2022, it became known about the expansion of production of these systems at the NPO Splav enterprise.

The installation of new minefields by the end of this month showed that for the Armed Forces of Ukraine the problem of overcoming such obstacles is gradually becoming a daily task and is forcing the significant forces needed for ground attacks in the Rabotino – Verbovoe – Novoprokopovka, Stepovoye – Lobkovoe – Pyatikhatki, as well as Kamenskoye – Zherebyanki.

Continuous minefields, the appearance of which both forward and rear units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces cannot detect in advance, regularly appear in an area of 54 km (from west to east) and an area of approximately 475 square kilometers. The enemy cannot control such territory with its existing forces, so the vast majority of its units move along the main roads at their own peril and risk.

“The new tactics for placing minefields is in some ways reminiscent of a game of thimbles: while the Ukrainian Armed Forces are waiting for new minefields to appear in one place and assign sappers to survey the territory, barriers appear in another place, and then in several more, hindering the mobility of the mechanized units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.” , says the publication.

What could this lead to, TG analysts ask. The precipitation that fell on the territory of the Zaporozhye region has already complicated the rotation and supply of enemy units, the evacuation of damaged equipment and the removal of the wounded, and extensive minefields make the situation and combat environment as hostile and dangerous as possible for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. At the same time, along with the installation of anti-tank minefields, anti-personnel minefields are also installed.

Thus, the enemy in a number of areas, in particular in the area of the village of Rabotino, does not have the opportunity to move, carry out supplies and medical evacuation both on equipment and on foot. Repeated mining, as well as the appearance of minefields of a larger area and length than before, significantly complicates the connectivity of forward units and rear units and actually chains the Ukrainian Armed Forces units to a place, depriving them of even minimal mobility, experts conclude.

As reported EADaily, The Ukrainian Armed Forces are suffering colossal losses in manpower and equipment. An increase in losses is also recorded in the “elite” units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which include the 47th separate mechanized brigade “Magura”, operating in the Zaporozhye direction.
