The Cartwheel Galaxy Sighted in More Detail by the James Webb Telescope, Here’s What It Looks Like

KOMPAS.com – James Webb Space Telescope shot successfully Galaxy Cartwheel with never-before-seen detail. This image was released on August 2, which adds to the understanding of the star system.

Galaksi Cartwheel is galaxy with a chaotic shape shrouded in hot dust 500 million light years from Earth.

Recent images reveal what happened to this galactic acrobat as it was reshaped by the collision.

The image shows two smaller companion galaxies to the left of the Cartwheel Galaxy with more galaxies behind them.

“The (Cartwheel Galaxy) appearance is the result of an intense, high-speed collision between a large spiral galaxy and a small galaxy that is not visible in this image,” NASA representatives said in a statement. Live Science, Friday (5/8/2022).

Right now, like galaxy pictures targeted telescopic head James Webbthe Cartwheel Galaxy is irregularly shaped.

However, it is likely that this galaxy has a spiral shape similar to the Milky Way Galaxy before the collision. The collision occurred at the center of the Cartwheel Galaxy, which created two visible rings spreading out from the impact site.

The bright inner ring is filled with hot dust and young star clusters, while the outer ring is home to newborn stars and supernovae.

In addition, some of the original spiral features are still visible as the lines between the two rings.

Meanwhile, the Hubble Space Telescope has also captured images of this galaxy. However, the picture is more detailed than The Cartwheel Galaxy was shot by the James Webb telescope. The telescope’s infrared camera reveals more stars than visible in visible light.

This is because young stars penetrate dust more easily when viewed under infrared light.

Telescope James Webb is NASA’s newest telescope, which can find objects 100 times fainter than the Hubble Space Telescope can detect, including the Cartwheel Galaxy, which is captured in very detailed images.
