The carpentry workshop was to be moved to Stiklestad when things went wrong – NRK Trøndelag

Because when the historic building was moved up on the trailer, it started to slip off.

It was the newspaper Innherred who first mentioned the case.

– The carpentry workshop is a bit fragile so we did not stabilize it enough to withstand the move, says department manager at Stiklestad, Ingegerd Eggen.

The building is part of an old apartment building, where both the residential house and the workshop are planned to be moved up to Stiklestad.

– The carpentry workshop is unique in its context, and as a museum we always want to take care of the original buildings, says Eggen.

Considering reconstruction

Due to the building’s poor condition, and the failed attempt at relocation, a new assessment will now be made on how it can be transported.

– We want to move the original building, but it must not be at the expense of life and health, Eggen says.

She says that the main priority is to find a solution to the transfer. If this is not possible, a reconstruction of the building will be considered.

– A formidable job has been done with documentation of the building, it allows us to tell the story of the house regardless of whether we get the original

There are few similar buildings

The old carpentry workshop is under a conservation process, and is one of the few such buildings that still exist in Norway.

– Ingvaldsen’s carpentry workshop is a rarely good representative of such workshops. We are now starting a conservation process to preserve the workshop environment. A protection means that the buildings are preserved and renovated, says section leader Anne Bjørg Svestad in the section cultural monuments in Trøndelag County Municipality.

According to Trøndelag County Municipality, the workshop was built in 1914 by the furniture carpenter Petter Ingvaldsen. Among other things, he helped to restore the interior of Stiklestad church ahead of the 900th anniversary of the battle of Stiklestad in 1930.

The workshop was once important for the training of carpenters in Verdal and Innherred.
