Erabaru.net. Steve is a cleaner at a car dealership and a single parent to his son, Adam. After Adam left his father to pursue his dream, Steve felt his job was all he had. However, his son later returns with more than Steve could ever dream of.
Steve worked as a cleaner in a luxury car dealership for the last 12 years of his job. Steve loves and values his job. He really loves cars, so every day working in luxury cars is a real pleasure.
He is a single father to his son, Adam. Even though his job didn’t bring him much money, it did help him raise his son and send him to school. After Adam graduated from college, Steve tried to get him a job at a dealership.
Steve had even persuaded his boss to give Adam the sales manager position at the dealership. Adam was grateful for his father’s efforts, but his heart wasn’t really working. He has ambitions of his own, hoping to one day open a business.
Adam worked at the dealership for a few months but soon felt it was time for him to go his own way. He has signed up for a course to continue his studies in business management in the city.
He plans to sign up for the course while teaming up with a friend who also lives in town to start his business. Adam knew his departure would break his father’s heart, but he had to start paving the way.
“I really hope you understand, father. I thank you for this opportunity. Really. But it’s not for me. I have to be myself and carve my own path,” Adam sincerely explained to a distraught Steve.
“After everything I’ve been through to get you this job, Adam,” Steve said, taking a moment to collect his thoughts. Then he asked: “Are you sure this is what you want? Starting a business is not easy, and it is a very good job,” added Steve.
“I know, father. And I thank you for all your efforts father. Not just work but everything. I know dad has worked tirelessly to give me every opportunity. And I know what I’m trying to do won’t be in vain. But God will make a way, and your lessons will help me through it,” said Adam warmly.
“I can’t say I’m happy with this. But I respect your decision, son,” Steve concluded, hugging his son.
It’s been 8 years since Adam left to chase his dream. Steve and his son talk on the phone whenever they get a chance, and Steve misses him a lot.
After Adam left, Steve felt very lonely.
As time went on, Steve found more and more comfort in his work. Every day he cleans in the car dealership, but his greatest joy is cleaning cars.
Every morning, an hour before the car showroom opened, he wiped the dust off the cars. He often sits behind the wheel of his favorite car and dreams about what it would be like to have his own car.
Some of his colleagues taunted him saying: “Steve, you cleaner! Our salaries can’t even pay a penny for a car like that!” But Steve never paid them any mind. It had become a kind of pleasure for him.
Whenever his colleagues mocked him, he simply replied: “A man can dream, can’t he?”
One day, while Steve is wiping the car, he notices that his all-time favorite car, a classic Bentley, is finally in the store’s showroom. Steve had heard from his boss that someone had ordered him a while ago, and Steve was eager to have a moment with him.
After he finished cleaning it with great care, he finally sat in the driver’s seat. He dreams of what it would be like to travel long distances in this beautiful vehicle. As she looked in the passenger seat she thought of Adam, imagining them traveling together.
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she thought about her son. He really missed her. Then, suddenly he heard a voice calling him: “The car you just cleaned is yours,” said the voice.
Steve recognized the voice immediately; it’s Adam. “Steve, have you gone mad? I think you are dreaming too much,” Steve thought to himself.
When she looked in the rearview mirror, she saw Adam standing there, looking as radiant as ever. Steve’s heart jumped for joy as he jumped out of the car, rushing to hug his son.
They share a long emotional hug. Then, Adam repeated: “The car is yours, Daddy,” Adam repeated.
At the same time, his colleagues and showroom guests started to stand up and applaud Steve. Steve still didn’t understand what was going on. All he wanted to do was greet his son, whom he missed so much.
“I’ve been waiting for you! I missed you so much son,” Steve said emotionally.
“I miss you too, father. So, are you going to give it a try?” he asked.
“Ha ha ha! Very funny, you came here with a joke. What’s this? A joke? These clowns made you do this?” said Steve with a chuckle pointing at his colleagues who mocked him so much.
“This is not a joke, father. I bought you that car. It’s yours,” Adam said as he handed Steve the key. Steve was in complete disbelief and couldn’t hold back his tears as he hugged his son.
“But how?” asked a confused Steve.
“My business did pretty well over the years, and I saved most of what I made so that one day I could give this to my dad,” says Adam.
“Wow! God really opened the way,” said Steve, still trying to make sense of what he was seeing and hearing.
“Yes, true. And your lessons keep me going. Thank you, Father,” said Adam earnestly.
“No, I should be the one apologizing. I should have trusted you more,” said Steve, exasperated.
“Let me go! You didn’t stop me from chasing my dreams! And that’s the main thing! You gave me freedom, and I thank you for that. This is my way of thanking dad. During these 8 years, I spent almost no money on myself. I dream of giving daddy your dream car, daddy!” he said.
Steve was truly touched by his son’s actions and words. Over the years, Adam never mentioned what he was working on behind the scenes, and now Steve is reaping the rewards of his efforts. That summer, Steve’s dream came true, and he went on a road trip with his beloved son in his new Bentley.
What can we learn from this story?
Don’t be afraid to chase your dreams. Adam decided to take a leap of faith and pursue his dream, and in the end, it paid off not only for him but for his father as well.
You don’t always have to agree with someone to love and respect them. While his father did not see things the way he did, Adam continued to show him respect. Likewise, even though Steve doesn’t agree with Adam’s decision to leave, he respects it and lets him pursue his goals.
