The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation begins testing the eastern Gijón treatment plant | BE Gijón | Today for Today Gijón

On April 13, 2021, the completion and commissioning works of the East Gijón treatment plant began with an execution period of 12 months, which includes 6 months of operation of the treatment plant. Prior to the definitive commissioning of the new treatment plant, it is necessary to carry out various functional tests with residual water, for its adjustment and verification of its proper functioning.

Given the advanced state of the works, and having been authorized, on October 11, 2021, by the Regional Ministry of Administration, Environment and Climate Change of the Principality of Asturias, the discharge into the maritime-terrestrial public domain of the effluent from the sewage treatment plant, it is planned to start operating tests next Monday, October 18.

The performance tests will initially consist of putting into service the new pretreatment built, de-sanding-degreasing designed for a maximum flow of up to 3 m3 / sec, for its subsequent return to the wastewater pumping well to the currently existing submarine outfall.

Later, throughout the month of November, it is planned to put the rest of the treatment plant into service: primary decantation and biological treatment. To do this, previously, it will be necessary to replace several of the seals of the sludge impulsion line that have been found to be defective during pressure tests carried out in recent weeks on the existing sludge collector.
