the camera removes unwanted bright spots

The public beta of iOS 15 improves on an important aspect of the iPhone camera. Bright spots that appear in bright light when taking a photo are automatically removed in post processing.

The fourth public beta of iOS 15 has only been deployed for a few days. All users can download it to iPhone and iPad to test what’s new in this version.

The beta of iOS 15 notably brings a big improvement in terms of the camera. The bright spots, also called spots of light or lens flare, are automatically deleted in post-processing, at least for the most part.

Soon the end of the lens flare that spoils the photos?

On Reddit, the user “u / Doubleluckstur” realized the novelty of iOS 15 which should also include a new function of food tracking. He shared the photo of a landscape as it is captured and when it is saved in the gallery. When he takes the photo, a bright green dot appears to the left of the image. After software processing, the photo saved in his gallery no longer has a light point.

Lens flare is a common phenomenon that annoys many users. It can actually spoil a well-composed photo. These bright spots appear when there is a strong light. For example, they are common in urban night shots.

At this time, we don’t know if all iPhone models are affected by this improvement. One user was able to enjoy it on his iPhone XS while another saw no change on his iPhone 8 Plus. According to the theory of 9to5Mac, it may well be that only iPhones equipped with Apple A12 Bionic and later models benefit from the best post-processing.

iOS 15 doesn’t remove bright spots from videos yet

In addition, other users have noticed the limitations of this novelty. Bright spots are not always suppressed indoors with artificial light. They also do not seem to be identified if they are on the foliage of a tree or a mosquito net. Moreover, the lens flare does not disappear on the videos.

Finally, we cannot yet confirm whether the final version of iOS 15 will be able to remove these bright spots once and for all. In any case, Apple is working on it. Moreover, the Cupertino company recently announced that some functions of Siri will disappear with iOS 15.
