Rutte and De Jonge again held a press conference yesterday on how the Netherlands is overcoming the corona crisis. The cabinet did not announce any new measures, but also no new relaxation.
The shopping streets are getting busier and the terraces are packed on weekends. Nevertheless, the infection rates remain stable and the number of hospital admissions low. Young people are becoming restless because their social life is still largely flat. And most students are still at home with digital education.
The Dutch economy is also still struggling with the strict corona measures. Although people buy more and go out and about, most entrepreneurs struggle to keep their heads above water.
Is it time to loosen the reins a little more? Or is it a duty towards the elderly and vulnerable, to leave the corona measures as they are for the time being?
