The Blues Win the European Super Cup

Chelsea managed to become a champion 2021 European Super Cup. The Blues become champions after beating Villarreal through a penalty shootout.

Chelsea vs Villarreal took place at Windsor Park, Thursday (12/8/2021) early morning WIB. Chelsea came with the status of champions of the Champions League and Villarreal were champions of the Europa League.

The Blues took the lead in the first half through Hakim Ziyech’s goal. New Villarreal evened the score to 1-1 in the second half through Gerard Moreno, who also made the duel continue into extra time.

In 2×15 minutes of added time, no goals were scored. This duel then continued to a penalty shootout which Chelsea won with a score of 6-5.

The course of the match

Chelsea took control of the game early on. The Blues threatened through Timo Werner’s shot in the sixth minute, which Sergio Asenjo could still deny.

Thomas Tuchel’s team played very aggressively. The second threat also came from N’Golo Kante in the ninth minute, but his shot from outside the penalty box was still slightly wide of the Villarreal goal.

Until the game runs for 20 minutes, Villarreal is still having trouble spreading threats to Chelsea’s goal. Unai Emery’s team is more busy reducing Chelsea’s attacks.

Ziyech received treatment in the 40th minute following the impact. The former Ajax Amsterdam could not continue the match and was replaced by Christian Pulisic.

Villarreal actively pressed at the end of the first half. There was an Alberto Moreno shot that hit the Chelsea crossbar. Not long after, the referee blew the whistle at halftime.

Villarreal immediately took the initiative to attack early in the second half. Gerard Moreno’s shot in the 51st minute hit the Chelsea goalpost.

Another Villarreal threat came in the 67th minute. Pervis Estupinan from a tight angle opened fire, but the ball was pushed over by Mendy.

Villarreal deadlock broke in the 73rd minute. Welcoming Boulaye Dia’s bait, Gerard Moreno managed to tear Mendy’s goal to change the score to 1-1.

Chelsea trying to find a goal in return. Mason Mount fired home in the 75th minute, but his shot was saved by Asenjo.

Marcos Alonso’s turn to threaten Villarreal. His header in the 85th minute was still too weak to be secured by Asenjo.

There were no additional goals until normal time was over. The duel must continue to an additional 2×15 minutes.

Chelsea threw away a golden opportunity in the first half of extra time to be precise in the 100th minute. Pulisic shot the ball from close range after using the chaos, still wide of the target.

Chelsea pressed again early in the second half of added time. There was a Mason Mount shot that Asenjo could still parry in the 107th minute.

Tuchel is already preparing to continue the match to a penalty shootout. He made a change in the 119th minute by entering Kepa Arrizabalaga to replace Mendy.

As a result, there were no additional goals for 2×15 minutes to complete. The match was forced to proceed to a penalty shootout to find a winner.

Kai Havertz was the first kicker for Chelsea, but his shot was saved by Asenjo. Gerard Moreno was Villarreal’s first shot and managed to outwit Kepa to lead 1-0.

Cesar Azpilicueta as Chelsea’s second kicker managed to equalize the score to 1-1. Kepa then successfully parried the ball from Villarreal’s second executor, Aissa Mandi.

Marcos Alonso as the third shooter was able to overturn a 2-1 advantage for Chelsea after successfully outwitting Asenjo. Pervis Estupinan hit back to make it 2-2.

Chelsea’s fourth-kick was taken by Mount to return to bring the Blues 3-2 ahead. Moi Gomez of Villarreal in the end changed the score to 3-3.

Jorginho came down as Chelsea’s fifth kicker and gave his team a 4-3 lead. Villarreal forced a penalty shootout into the extra kick after Daniel Raba made it 4-4.

Pulisic as the sixth kicker gave Chelsea a 5-4 lead and Juan Foyth made it 5-5. Kurt Zouma, the seventh kicker, made it 6-5 for Chelsea and Raul Albiol missed the task after his shot was parried by Kepa.
