The best smartphones from 2019 according to Android Planet

It is time again to list the best smartphones of the past year. On Android Planet we have tested a lot of devices in the last twelve months and below we list our five favorites.

For this list we have not only looked at high-end smartphones, but we also take cheaper devices with us. After all, in 2019 enough excellent Android phones also appeared that did not cost the absolute top prize. We also have an extensive list with the best cheap Android smartphones from 2019, with more telephones that have a good price-quality ratio.

1. Samsung Galaxy S10

Samsung came with the in the first months of 2019 Galaxy S10 and at the end of this year this is one of the best Android smartphones. The Galaxy S10 is especially very complete and scores well on every level. The screen is world class, the chipset very powerful and the cameras shoot excellent photos.

However, some adjustments that Samsung is making this year are more gimmicks than actual improvements. For example, the fingerprint scanner below the screen is not very fast and accurate. In addition, the battery life is sufficient, but not great. Charging goes with 15 watts and that is in 2019 far from impressive.

It is nice that the Galaxy S10 has dropped considerably in price. The smartphone had a suggested retail price of 899 euros, but now you get it for around 620 euros. In our price comparison you check the best deals for one separate Galaxy S10 or Galaxy S10 with subscription.

2. OnePlus 7 Pro

Also the OnePlus 7 Pro should certainly not be missing from this list. The device has since been followed by the 7T Pro, but it only makes minimal improvements. You also have the normal 7T which is cheaper, but it does not look as futuristic as the 7 Pro. That is why we opt for the OnePlus 7 Pro.

The OnePlus 7 Pro focuses primarily on speed and still feels incredibly fast. This is due to the powerful hardware, but the screen also has a refresh rate of 90Hz and therefore everything goes much smoother.

Furthermore, the software on the 7 Pro is very nice and the screen fills the entire front, because the selfie camera is incorporated in the housing. The camera is not the very best (but it is versatile and still good enough) and the battery does not last very long, but the charging is very fast. Nevertheless, the OnePlus 7 Pro is one of the best smartphones of 2019, which still blows down newer devices.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is for sale at various Dutch web stores, although of course you can also go for the 7T or 7T Pro. Check the best deals for one loose OnePlus 7 Pro or the 7 Pro with subscription.

3. Motorola Moto G7 Plus

Of course there are also a lot of cheaper smartphones and the Motorola Moto G7 Plus is one of the best in our opinion. The device has a sleek design, nice screen, good performance and also a great camera. The device mainly offers features that you will hardly find in this price range, such as optical image stabilization and charging with 27 watts. Especially the latter is very nice, because with this the phone is completely full in less than an hour.

There are some downsides, and that is mainly due to the software. The phone has an almost bare version of Android and that is fine, but the update policy of Motorola is not great. If you think fast updates are important, then you should Nokia 7.2 or 6.2 can consider. The G7 Plus has since been succeeded by the Moto G8 Plus, but we don’t necessarily find that better than its predecessor.

The Motorola Moto G7 Plus has been reduced in price by a few tens since its release. Do you want a loose Moto G7 Plus to buy? Then check out our price comparator. The other devices from the Moto G7 series, the Moto G7 Power, Moto G7 and Moto G7 Playare worth the effort.

4. Samsung Galaxy A50

The Samsung Galaxy A50 might be a safe choice if you have less money to spend, but no less good. With the Galaxy A50, Samsung has established an excellent, affordable smartphone that convinces in many areas. The performance is excellent, the design is good and especially the battery life and the screen are excellent. In addition, it is neat that the A50 supports fast charging and you get plenty of storage space as standard.

The camera performance is a bit disappointing and the fingerprint scanner in particular is below par. A fingerprint scanner under the screen is nice, but then it has to work well. If you look over it, the Galaxy A50 is definitely worth it. The price-quality ratio is excellent and with that the A50 is among the best cheap smartphones.

You get the Samsung Galaxy A50 for around 260 euros at home. Of course it is also possible to choose one Galaxy A50 with subscription. Do you want a slightly more powerful smartphone with a larger screen? Then the Galaxy A70 worth considering.

5. Huawei P30 Pro

Finally, we want the Huawei P30 Pro to mention. The device mainly distinguishes itself by the cameras and this year set a kind of new standard for smartphone photography. The P30 Pro is still among the best in the camera field, but it also convinces in other areas. The design is very nice, the OLED screen very nice and the hardware super fast. But especially the battery life is worth it. With normal use, the P30 Pro lasts two days and charging is extremely fast.

The P30 Pro is not entirely perfect, because the software of Huawei remains mediocre and due to the uncertain situation surrounding the trade ban of Huawei it is unclear how long and how many updates the P30 Pro will get. You should pay close attention to this when considering the P30 Pro, but it does not alter the fact that the device in itself is excellent.

The Huawei P30 Pro has a hefty suggested retail price of 999 euros, but luckily it has dropped considerably in price. A loose P30 Pro now you get more than 300 euros (!) less in the house.
