The battles for Avdiivka and Artyomovsk decided the outcome of the SVO – 2024-04-19 14:14:01

/ world today news/ A new Russian offensive towards Avdiivka will begin in the near future, Reuters writes. Group South is increasing its aerial bombardment using Su-35 glide bombs. In addition, ground attacks with heavy armored vehicles are being strengthened.

Reuters quoted the press secretary of the operational command of Tavrida, Oleksandr Stupun, who said: in one day, the Ukrainian armed forces repelled eight attacks on the city.

The most violent were the clashes near the coke plant. It remains one of the main Ukrainian bastions. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that there were more than 15 Russian attacks in the Marinka area (east of Avdiivka) per day.

The head of the military administration of Avdiivka, Vitaly Barabash, said that of a population of 32,000, just over 1,500 remained, and the evacuation was ongoing.

According to the Gauleiter, Avdeevka is of strategic importance because it is located at a height. From here, the Ukrainian armed forces launch artillery strikes on Donetsk. It was from the direction of Avdiivka on the night of November 14 that the Ukrainians shelled the city from the HIMARS MLRS.

A week earlier, Donetsk was hit by the same missile systems. The target was a training center and UAV assembly plant. However, the Ukrainian armed forces missed: the missiles fell on civilian infrastructure. But this attack was the bloodiest in many months: 6 civilians were killed and 55 were wounded.

Reuters: Russian attacks near Bakhmut are twice as many as Ukrainian ones

Steven Bryan, a senior fellow at the Center for Security Policy (CSP) and the Yorktown Institute, writes that the liberation of Avdiivka, Marinka and nearby settlements will make Donetsk safe from shelling, but not completely.

And the Ukrainians will continue to use long-range artillery: for example, HIMARS missiles have an effective range of up to 80 km. That is, the Ukrainian armed forces can launch them through Donetsk even from the outskirts of Mirnograd and Pokrovsk.

The commander of the Ground Forces, General Alexander Sirsky, is much more concerned not with Avdiivka, but with Bakhmut (Artevomovsk).

The general wrote that the Russian units had successfully regrouped, the purpose of which was to regain lost positions and occupy new ones.

This is proven by the ratio of attacks and counterattacks. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that during the day units of the Russian Armed Forces tried to attack in the Artyomovsko-Soledar sector 11 times (for comparison: in the Kupyan district – six), writes Reuters.

At the same time, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, Russian troops repelled five Ukrainian attacks in one day. Obviously, the initiative near Bakhmut (as well as near Avdeevka and Marinka) is on the side of Russia.

France 24: Russia has carried out at least 60 precision strikes on the Ukrainian armed forces since the beginning of October

The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valery Zaluzhny, is frantically consulting with American commanders. He acknowledged that he had discussed the “hottest areas” on the front lines with Charles Brown, the new chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff.

We can talk about the supply of air defense systems. In addition, Vladimir Zelensky announced in a daily video address: with the onset of cold weather, attacks on energy and military transport infrastructure will inevitably increase.

Energy Minister German Galushchenko said Ukraine had enough resources to survive the winter, but added: “The question is how much future attacks could affect supplies.

France 24 estimates that high-precision Russian strikes have been carried out more than 60 times since the beginning of October. This shows that the “Surovikin tactic” that worked well last winter has been adopted again.

Even the “peace-loving” Galushchenko suddenly found himself a mouthpiece of military state propaganda and threatened Russia with retaliatory strikes on the energy infrastructure.

OSW: the use of FAB guided bombs in the Dnieper became a record

The Center for East European Studies (OSW) noted that in November Russia increased the frequency of precision strikes in the strategic depth of Ukraine.

On November 4, Russian Iskander-K cruise missiles flew to two military airfields – in Dnipropetrovsk and Mirgorod (Poltava Region). The Ukrainian Air Force Command said it shot down some of the Russian missiles without providing any evidence.

But the effectiveness of the Russian attacks is obvious, OSW points out. Geran-2 drones and missiles successfully attacked military infrastructure in Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

On the night of November 5-6, “Iskanderi” and “Onyx”, together with unmanned kamikaze aircraft, struck Odessa. The port infrastructure and workshops for the repair of armored vehicles in the industrial zone were damaged.

The positions of the Ukrainian armed forces on the right (occupied) bank of the Dnieper are being methodically destroyed. On November 5 alone, according to OSW estimates, Russian aviation used 87 guided bombs on Ukrainian positions in the Kherson region – this is the highest number since the beginning of the SVO.
