Riigikogu recognized the Russian regime as a terrorist | Estonia

According to the approved resolution, the Riigikogu strongly condemns the military actions of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the illegal annexation of the territory seized during the attack. Parliament confirms that Estonia will never recognize the violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity as a result of the aggression and the holding of rigged referendums.

According to the document, the Riigikogu supports the investigations launched by the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court to clarify the circumstances of the crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine and considers it necessary to initiate a trial against the perpetrators of the crime of aggression in the context of a special international court.

Furthermore, according to the statement, the Riigikogu condemns the use of armed formations, such as the Wagner Group, created with the support of the Russian Federation authorities, as part of the aggression. Parliament considers it necessary to recognize the armed forces of the so-called People’s Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk created by the Russian Federation and the private military company Wagner as terrorist organizations.

The Riigikogu also condemns the Russian regime’s announcement and mobilization conduct in violation of international law, noting that the mobilization carried out in order to continue the criminal aggression is a crime against peace.

The Riigikogu also supports the call to deprive the Russian Federation of permanent member status of the UN Security Council and calls on EU member states to show unity in applying further economic sanctions against the Russian Federation and its ally. Belarus and sanctions against individuals, as well as to ensure strict compliance with previously imposed sanctions.

The Riigikogu also calls on the European Union and NATO to significantly increase the amount of military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and to support the post-conflict reconstruction of the state. “Estonia supports the people, the state and the army of Ukraine in the war against the aggressor by all possible means and believes in the victory of Ukraine, as this alone will restore peace in Europe,” the document states.

Earlier this year, he released three statements condemning Russia’s actions and expressing support for Ukraine. On 18 January, Parliament adopted a declaration in support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, on 23 February a declaration on Russian aggression against Ukraine, and on 21 April a declaration on Russian war crimes and genocide.
