The barrel is dirty again. Firefighters intervene

The mayor of the town, Robert Stržínek (YES), informed about the case, according to him, the substance got into Bečva from the same outlet of the canal, as according to police findings, cyanide escaped into the river a few weeks ago.

“A leak of an unknown substance was detected from the incriminated canal leading from Rožnov’s Tesla. Foam appeared on the river surface. Of course, after we have information that cyanide leaked from there a few weeks ago, everyone is vigilant, “said Stržínek.

He doesn’t want to downplay the situation, yet he doesn’t think it’s a cyanide leak again. “I firmly believe it will be a detergent or something. Of course, firefighters took samples, did tests. We will be wiser in a few days, “said the mayor.

The firefighters have not yet commented on the case, but the Valašské Meziříčí town hall, under the warning that people would rather not approach Bečva, shielded the fire commander of the intervention.

“We strongly do not recommend the public to enter the Bečva River until further notice, or to bathe animals or take any water from the bridge to the local part of Juřinka further down the river,” Jakub Mikuš, a town hall spokesman, wrote on the town’s website.

The town hall had the radio announced information about the leakage of an unknown substance into Bečva, and also published it on the city’s Facebook page.

“The Fire and Rescue Service of the Zlín Region intervenes on the spot, which also took samples here. We do not yet know the results of the analyzes or the source by which the unknown substances got into the river. In addition to the fire brigade, the police also intervene on the spot, “Mikuš told Práva.

An unknown perpetrator released cyanide into the Bečva River on September 20, the case is still being investigated by Vsetín criminal investigators. An ecological accident affected the river in the section below Valašské Meziříčí to Přerov. According to experts, cyanide has damaged the entire aquatic habitat and conditions for all water-bound organisms on about 40 kilometers of flow. Fishermen took more than 40 tons of fish from the affected area of Přerov to the rendering plant.

According to Mikuš, this time the pollution will probably do without the death of the fish. “If I have the right information, no fish have died yet. And we hope that it will not even happen again, “said Mikuš.
