The race for the play-in has returned its verdict in the West, and it is the Phoenix Suns who end the night’s big losers. Grand princes, they congratulated their tormentors of the Blazers on Twitter, who responded to them in a moving way.
For a few minutes, they put up with the Brooklyn Nets like they had never done before. The time of a few minutes, during the 4th quarter of the latter, they saw themselves achieve the impossible, and go look for a place for the play-in after being so far behind. Then, disillusionment.
On the cusp of their final regular season game, the Suns knew they didn’t have their fate in their hands. To still dream of qualifying for the playoffs, Monty Williams’ men had to win their meeting against the Mavericks, and hope for a misstep from the Grizzlies and / or the Blazers.
They brilliantly completed the first part of the contract, winning widely against Dallas (128-102), thanks in particular to a new good performance from Devin Booker (27 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists). All they had to do was pray. And if some have certainly relied on the hereafter, they have not seen their call heard.
At the same time, the Grizzlies indeed won their opposition against the private Bucks of Giannis Antetokounmpo (119-106). A first missed opportunity. A few hours later, it was the Blazers who put a definitive end to their hopes, by going to seek the end of the suspense a brand success against Brooklyn (134-133).
Obviously, the disappointment must have been immense in a Phoenix team which had just completed a perfect course in the bubble, with 8 wins in 8 games. Despite this, the franchise’s community manager on Twitter was extremely handsome, and congratulated the team who ultimately deprived them of the finals.
