The Autonomous Community encourages spending the summer in “pepper mode” to promote its consumption | Radio Murcia | Present

The new campaign to promote peppers in the Region of Murcia aims to promote their quality, enhance their consumption and promote their commercialization in the markets. The counselor Antonio Luengo highlighted that “it is a sector with a sustainable and innovative production, which constantly incorporates the effort of technology transfer in aspects such as high precision irrigation, biological control or intelligent fertilization”.

Under the slogan ‘Modo pimiento’, the campaign includes two promotional videos, a radio spot and a contest on the social network Instagram, with the hashtag #enmodopimiento, by a well-known influencer. The winners of the raffle, which will take place on Wednesday June 30, will receive batches of products with a beach kit, consisting of a t-shirt, beach bag and mobile phone hanger, as well as a batch of different varieties of pepper.

This initiative is part of the global promotion campaign for ‘Products from the Region of Murcia’ that the Ministry has been doing, in which it tries to value regional products and promote their consumption.

The cultivation of peppers in the Region of Murcia occupies 1,493 hectares, of which 1,189 are under greenhouse and the rest in the open air. In 2020, 111,876 tons of peppers were exported for a value of 155.3 million euros, with Murcian peppers representing 13.2 percent of total national exports.

Production is concentrated in the Campo de Cartagena region, with two main types of varieties: California, which includes Tallante, Angus, Tamarín, Cadmanchú, Maestral, Yacir or Carson; and Lamuyo, to which Herminio, Almuden, Río Grande or Loreto belong. This year it is expected to increase production by 5 percent, exceeding the 165,061 tons in 2020.
