The audience of Colors of Ostrava welcomed the American singer LP as a good acquaintance

Several stars are rightly associated with Colors of Ostrava, who established their enormous popularity in the Czech lands by performing at the Ostrava festival. They are Zaz, Mariza or Aurora at random. Laura Pergolizzi, better known under the initials LP, also joined them. Her return to the festival after a breakthrough performance in 2017 was a triumphant one.

At the same time, the LP did without fancy dance numbers, rehearsed poses or pyrotechnics. She was “just” enough with a brilliantly playing band and a decent light design. Her persuasiveness lay in her distinctive singing expression, in the lived experience of the compositions themselves.

Friday’s program did not culminate with her performance. At midnight, the Vikings took over the main stage, and a haze of natural mysticism and mystery spread over the industrial area of Dolní Vítkovice.

The Norwegian band Wardruna can do magic with references to ancient Nordic spirituality and shamanic traditions, but also with hypnotic rhythms and captivating musical surfaces. For this, she used both folk musical instruments from the European north and electronics. And also appropriate costumes.

The Scandinavian scene took an important place in the dramaturgy of the festival on Friday. Lindy-Fay Hella, one of Wardruna’s vocalists, also brought her own original project Dei Farne. In it, she combined the elegance of cultured indie pop with Nordic chiaroscuro.

The Norwegian group Kalandra became the discovery of this year’s Colors of Ostrava festival.

As Wardruna and Lindy-Fay are currently performing as part of the joint Nordic Night Open Air tour with the band Kalandra, this young line-up also presented itself in Ostrava.

It was she, with the enchanting singer Katrine Stenbekková and music that swung between indie pop, guitar rock and trans-genre dreaminess, that became one of the discoveries of this year’s Colors of Ostrava. And also the darling of the audience, who did not want to let her off the stage.

Beata Hlavenková’s Dream Band enjoyed local performers. In its own way, it is quite close to Nordic inspirations and moods.
