The Atlanta exhibition tournament in turn hit by the Covid-19 …

American player Frances Tiafoe announced that he had tested positive for the new coronavirus on Friday after playing an exhibition match with the public.

“Unfortunately, I tested positive at Covid-19 on Friday evening and I have to withdraw from the All-American Team Cup tournament in Atlanta this weekend,” wrote the 81st ATP world champion on social media. “For the past two months, I have been training in Florida and I tested negative just a week ago,” said the 22-year-old American. Tiafoe played – and won – a match against Sam Querrey on Friday, as part of an exhibition tournament bringing together all the Americans in the ATP top 100 (John Isner, Taylor Fritz, Reilly Opelka, Sam Querrey, Tennys Sandgren, Tommy Paul and Steve Johnson). Placed in quarantine, it is therefore forfeited for this tournament. In another tweet, the American said he will conduct a second test next week.

“Like all players, Tiafoe was tested before or upon arriving in Atlanta and was tested daily. After his match, he showed symptoms, was re-tested and tested positive, “the organizers said in a statement. “Tiafoe left the tournament site (…) After hearing the news, we immediately started to thoroughly clean and disinfect the site, and implemented the planned tracking and alert protocols”, continue the organizers. The Atlanta tournament is the second major tennis event affected by Covid-19 cases. At the end of June, the Adria Tour, a series of exhibition matches with audiences in the Balkans, sparked a major controversy after several major players, including Novak Djokovic, caught the coronavirus.
