Due to lack of resources, 25 doctors from the Montauban hospital resign administratively

It is an unprecedented movement: after the nurses on strike in the emergency room, the doctors are knocking on the table. According to the inter-hospital collective, more than 1,000 of them will present their administrative resignations this Tuesday, January 14. Clearly, they continue the care, but they cease their roles of heads of services. Collective and highly symbolic decision to denounce the continuing difficulties of French hospitals.

In Montauban, the movement is particularly followed: 25 doctors put their administrative resignations in the balance. All services, all specialties are concerned: from neurology to cardio through pediatrics. Many doctors, but also surgeons, and emergency doctors. “It is the first time that I have seen a movement that brings together so many people, especially doctors,” said Ségolène Billot, neurologist and resigned.

What worries them are these vacancies, always more. Because of the too low wages, health professionals often prefer to knock on the door of private clinics. The lack of doctors already existed. But according to the collective, the problem now concerns nurses, who are disgusted with the lack of valorization, humanly and financially.

Too low wages, and difficulty recruiting

In Montauban, for example, the hospital cannot recruit nurses in psychiatry and geriatrics. There are also gaps in physiotherapy or speech therapy. Positions essential to the proper functioning of the hospital: “all of this has an impact on care, and on the quality of care”, explains Ségolène Billot. This is why doctors are rebelling today. “We want to continue working at the public hospital, and that it continues to exist!” adds the neurologist.

For the inter-hospital collective, the premiums announced a few weeks ago by the Minister are not enough: he therefore requests an increase of 300 euros net per month for categories of staff in arrears. With this reminder: the salary of French nurses is 5% lower than the average salary in OECD countries. In Spain, it is 28% higher.
