Doing the Camino de Santiago right now is an adventure. Without going any further, in the province of León there is no hostel open between the capital of León and Astorga; nor between this town and Ponferrada. Despite this, there are still brave people who embark on the pilgrimage route, planning overnight stays in hostels and roadside motels. This Easter they were only a handful, most from nearby provinces due to the restrictions that the perimeter closure of the community entails. In fact, the Association of Friends of the Camino recommends not doing the Camino now and waiting for the situation to improve.
From the Association they trust that this summer, driven by advances in vaccination, normality will gradually recover on the Camino. In any case, they regret, the figures will be light years away from those that are usually registered, more in a Jacobean Year like this
