The Security Service of Ukraine carried out a complex counterintelligence operation, which ended with the arrest of a suspect in the Dnieper “in the hot air.” The defendant collected intelligence information about the movements of units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces participating in the counteroffensive on the eastern front.

“To disguise reconnaissance and subversive activities, the detainee, before going on a mission, changed into the military uniform of Ukrainian defenders. He paid special attention to the routes of railway trains transporting modern military equipment, weapons and ammunition for the Defense Forces. He also tried to identify Ukrainian air defense in the area. For collection “In order to obtain intelligence information, the person involved regularly moved around the city and photographed Ukrainian objects. The detainee transmitted the received data to his “curator” from the FSB through a messenger in the form of text messages and media files,” the department said in a statement.

For each completed task, the defendant received a monetary reward from the Russian intelligence services. To keep the sources of funding secret, he accepted funds onto his bank card due to the use of cryptocurrency transactions.

According to available data, the occupiers needed intelligence information to plan military operations and sabotage aimed at slowing down the Ukrainian counter-offensive in the areas of Ugledar and Velyka Novoselka.
