The Army will disinfect the Loiu airport | Radio Bilbao

The Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has ensured that the Military Emergency Unit (UME) will carry out disinfection tasks at Bilbao airport.

To questions from journalists about whether the UME is going to act again at the El Prat airport and in the port of Barcelona, where it has done so in disinfection, Grande-Marlaska has responded, at a press conference, that this unit “has acted and will act in Catalonia as many times as necessary and precise”, as it will also do at Loiu airport.

The UME will carry out all the functions for which it has a professional capacity “more than accredited,” said the minister, who recalled that the Army is installing a field hospital in Madrid for 5,000 beds.

The PP candidate for Lehendakari, Carlos Iturgaiz, stated last Wednesday that “it is indecency that the PNV rejects the help of the Army EMU to combat the coronavirus in the Basque Country.”

Through his social networks, Iturgaiz reported that “Iñigo Urkullu orders and Pedro Sánchez obeys”, in relation to the cancellation of the order to the UME when he went to the Biscay airport of Loiu to disinfect his facilities.

The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, had explained the previous day that it had been considered that the UME military would go to the Bilbao airport for disinfection, although the decision was finally made to carry out these works in the Cantabrian town of Valdecilla. .

The general secretary of the PSE-EE, Idoia Mendia, has also referred to this matter, who has assured this Friday that the UME will disinfect the facilities of the Bilbao airport “because this has been requested by its workers and the management” of the aerodrome.

Mendia has denied in an interview on Radio Euskadi that the Army is vetoed in Euskadi as criticized by the Basque PP and added that “if you have to deploy to install a field hospital, that’s what it is for.”

During his appearance, the minister has also pointed out that the state security forces, autonomous communities and local police have raised more than 31,100 complaints for breaching the rules of the state of alarm and have arrested 350 people for serious disobedience.

Regarding the controls of the Civil Guard this weekend to avoid prohibited movements, the minister has said that they will work in coordination with Catalonia and the Basque Country, with competences in traffic, to make citizens aware that it is not a usual weekend and they cannot leave their residence
