The Apple M1 Ultra is almost three times larger than the Ryzen

Apple M1 Ultra has now found its way in front of the camera in a video where the company’s new computer Mac Studio is taken apart to show exactly how Apple has built its latest product.

Youtube channel Max Tech is the first to disassemble Apple’s brand new computer Mac Studio in front of the camera. This with the brand new M1 Ultra circuit on the inside. Apple’s most powerful device since they broke up with Intel to develop their own chips.

The video shows in detail how Apple’s new computer is disassembled into its components and how Apple has designed the package to push as much as possible inside the chassis. We see a well-thought-out design where things like power supplies, motherboards and coolers have all been stacked in layers like a kind of technology cake. Despite this, disassembly seems to be a relatively simple process on the whole.

Most notably, the new M1 Ultra circuit is not entirely surprising. This system circuit houses the processor, which in practice is two M1 Max assembled into one unit. This along with up to 128 GB of system memory shared between the processor, graphics circuit and Apple’s Neural Engine.

The video also shows how Mac Studio’s connection for M.2 storage devices is relatively easy to access. This together with other components that are not soldered or glued. Something that shows Apple’s willingness to make computers that are easier to repair if needed. Unlike how many of their devices have looked in recent years.

The Apple M1 Ultra can be compared to AMD’s Epyc processors when it comes to pure physical size. It’s about three times the size of AMD’s Ryzen sockets for the AM4 socket. Not entirely surprising given that there are basically two processors put together into one via Apple’s UltraFusion connection to be presented as a single unit within the operating system and software.
