China is Tesla’s primary market, and the company has enjoyed many perks including tax breaks over the years as it expanded into the country, including building its first overseas factory in Shanghai. After shipping a record shipment of more than 100,000 Chinese-made EVs in November, Tesla’s shipments fell sharply in December to fewer than 56,000 due to sluggish demand and temporarily halted local production.
