The annual concert of Raimonds Tiguls has been performed at the “Open-Air Cathedral” in Tiguļkalns / Article / LSM.lv

Concerts in Tiguļkalns, Talsi, have become a tradition. On August 8, in the birthplace of the ninth-year-old grandfather of the musician – on the hill of the oak circle, which resembles an open-air cathedral – listeners drove to a free concert. Some chose to lay a blanket closer to the stage, others listened to the view of the sunset on the other side of the hill.

Raimonds Tiguls brings together musicians with whom concerts and recorded music albums have been held during the year. Every year the concert has a premiere. This year the singer Beāte Zviedre took part in the concert, Riga Dome Boys’ Choir led by Mārtiņš Klišāns sang “Morning and Evening Songs”, Jāzeps Vītols Rector of the Latvian Academy of Music Guntars Prānis demonstrated a unique instrumental ratalira.

Since the tradition established by Raimonds Tiguls on the highest hill of the city of Talsi in Tiguļkalns to gather his fellow musicians and spectators for free open-air concerts, the music world of the Kurzeme region has changed and the self-confidence of the people of Talsi has risen.

“This year is the ninth Tiguļkalns concert, it has already become a really beautiful tradition,” says Raimonds Tiguls. “That’s the vision – that’s what my idea was with the musicians, my friends, with whom I record albums together, and I give concerts, gather once a year, create meetings together.

At first it was not defined as a concert, but a gathering to make music. ”

Guntars Prānis, Rector of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, emphasizes: He can conjure up hundreds of such feelings. It seems to me people, when they listen, they find themselves in this music. It’s the most beautiful, especially now that we’ve been behind closed doors for so long. ”

Tiguļkalns strong oaks have been growing since the time of the composer’s grandfather. It is not for nothing that one of the first participants of this concert called this place an open-air cathedral.

Every year there is a premiere at the concert. “This year is a piece that premiered on Latvian Radio in December, when there was a Euroradio live broadcast with a huge audience of about 20 million people, and Beate Zviedre sang my song” Little Star “, and I had a new piece written, but I couldn’t be live myself,” tells the composer.

“I would not say that it is such a simple open-air concert, no, because Raimonds is not like that.

Raimonds’ music is what unites everything together, and it’s what gives a different mood to the trees in the hall, everything, it’s the magic of why people like to come here, ”says singer Beāte Zviedre.

This year’s Tiguļkalns concert has an important place for choral music – the Riga Dome Boys’ Choir, conducted by Mārtiņš Klišāns, played a concert program “Morning and Evening Songs” created in collaboration with outstanding Latvian poets and writers – Nora Iksten, Vaira Vike-Freiberga and Rasa Bugavi.
