This good dynamics in terms of security has not only been achieved with the increase in force and citizen culture campaigns, but technology has also played a fundamental role.
To the surveillance cameras that the city has, new tools are added that have made it possible to improve surveillance. For example, there is the helicopter that the Ministry of Defense delivered and that is being equipped with technological elements by the Mayor’s Office of Pereira and now the authorities also have a drone.
It is a drone that will allow surveillance over the city, not only in daylight, but also at night, which is where most crimes occur. And it is that this element has night vision.
In an interview with El Diario, the mayor of Pereira, Carlos Maya López, affirmed that the use of the drone will allow the design and implementation of better strategies and activities in terms of security, becoming a very useful tool when it comes to fighting crime.
Although this drone does not allow facial recognition, the city would have cameras next year that would allow it to identify people’s faces, even when they are wearing a mask.
It should be taken into account that the drone is complemented with other surveillance strategies, to make the centers of commerce, safer places for Pereirans and visitors.
