the agglomeration candidate to host a satellite event> Sète Pour Tous

The agglomeration concerned about climate change in its catchment area, is positioning itself for COP26.

The European Commission has launched the citizen and voluntary program “Ambassador of the European Climate Pact” in order to promote actions in favor of environmental protection and the fight against global warming. The objective is to highlight actors in the field who act in this perspective (individuals, associations, companies, communities).

In this context, Sète agglopôle Méditerranée has the project of participate in the event to be held in Glasgow, Scotland from November 1-12, 2021, via a satellite event. An application file was submitted on July 13th. The response from the European Commission is expected in the fall.

The goal is to highlight the actions of Sète agglopôle and partner organizations in favor of environmental protection and adaptation to climate change of a fragile and unique territory in the Mediterranean:

  • Coastal conservation (Marseillan and Frontignan lidos) and biodiversity (terrestrial and aquatic flora and fauna)
  • Air quality: implementation of a Territorial Air Energy Climate Plan, alternatives to the car (maritime shuttle, bicycle plan)
  • Preservation of water resources throughout its cycle
  • Innovative projects: thalassothermy, valorisation of shellfish by-products to fight against coastal erosion (Geocorail) and many others …

The latest IPCC report confirms that the Mediterranean area is a “hot spot” where the consequences will be more marked than elsewhere. To limit them, global warming must be contained below 2 ° C. This is the commitment made at the COP21 in Paris in 2015. Six years after the Paris agreement, the COP26 must be the first key step to verify its effectiveness and strengthen the ambition of the various countries.
