The acquisition of the Czech antivirus company Avast is postponed

The value of the transaction was estimated at up to $ 8.6 billion (CZK 184.4 billion). Avast originally announced its completion in the middle of this year, and subsequently the companies informed about the acceleration of the process and the merger as early as February 24. The E15 server notified the deadline.

The takeover of Avast attracted the attention of the British Antitrust Authority. In January, he launched an investigation into whether the merger would narrow the choice for consumers in Britain. The Office set 16 March as the date of the preliminary decision.

Due to the postponement of the transaction, Avast shareholders will receive an interim dividend paid for last year, namely 11.2 cents (about CZK 2.4) per share. The company previously stated that the condition for payment will be that the merger with NortonLifeLock will not take place before March 1. Payments, according to Fio banka, will begin on March 3.

Avast is a Czech multinational antivirus company that has been operating on the market since 1988. It is one of the pioneers in the field of computer security. It supplies security programs for computers and mobile devices and, according to experts, is one of the world’s best. Avast products are used by over 435 million users worldwide, largely free of charge. The company says it employs more than 1,700 people and that it blocks 1.5 billion computer attacks every month.

NortonLifeLock is headquartered in Tempe, Arizona. The company has a market value of about $ 16.3 billion and previously operated under the name Symantec. However, in 2019, he sold his enterprise and government security software division, Symantec, to US chip maker Broadcom. His most prominent business items are now Norton antivirus and LifeLock identity theft protection products.
