The Acoustic Rolling Band and the urgency to create honest music from the heart

What began as a sporadic meeting to participate in the Clarity Festival in 2014, became a great band, they have already recorded two albums, countless singles and have lived through a number of situations that have helped them grow as composers, musicians and, above all, friends. It is this path of maturation that will be enjoyed by the public that meets the next Saturday, November 27, at 8:00 pm in the Carlos Marichal Experimental Room of the Centro de Bellas Artes de Santurce in the concert “El Camper” by the Acoustic Rolling Band.

This group, made up of experienced Puerto Rican singer-songwriters and musicians Tito Auger, Mickie Rivera, Rucco Gandia, Walter Morciglio, Nore Feliciano and Nitayno Arayoán, will provide with his music a unique experience for attendees. “The concert is going to show all the stages of the band, by way of a tour. The show is called ‘El Caminante’, for that very reason, because it presents the members and the band as a single entity, walking through the entire trajectory from “Querido Rafael” and “Volume 1”, even what we have recently recorded and two songs that we have not released yet. It’s going to be very interesting and intense, ”explained Arayoán, drummer and member with less time in the band.

Most of the members of the group are singer-songwriters and have their projects as soloists or in other groups, which allows there to be an amalgam of ideas, thoughts and beliefs, which makes all that mixture be reflected in the music of the Band Rolling Acoustics. “Since we started playing together, the sound has changed all the time, but what has always been constant is that we make music with our hearts. We make songs with commitment and we have combined the super power that each one of us has because what we want to do is good music, that the public enjoy the show and tell great stories “said Morciglio, who in addition to singing and playing the guitar, also composes songs. According to the musician, at first the music of the Rolling Acoustic Band began with folkloric sounds, where the acoustic sound stood out, but over the years a more rock sound began to be heard, an element that unites them all.

The Acoustic Rolling Band was born in 2014 when Auguer and Morciglio received a call from the producers of the Clarity Festival asking them if they were interested in participating in the event. At that time, both mobilized and contacted singer-songwriters Rivera, Gandía and Feliciano, who did not hesitate to accept the invitation. It was so that they got together on stage and played original songs by each of them in a presentation of more or less an hour, without knowing that the collaboration would last for many more years.

“The reaction of the public was very good and something happened on that stage that caused us to continue seeing each other to play together and that is how a particular sound and a very beautiful direction was created and developed”explained Gandía, vocalist and bassist, who is also the founder of the rock band Radio Pirata.

First album

In 2016, the producers of the Clarity Festival once again made them a proposal for that year’s event, which was to be dedicated to the Puerto Rican independence leader Rafael Cancel Miranda. Both Auger and Morciglio suggested making a short album with autobiographical songs from the Puerto Rican, similar to an album that they had both worked on about Óscar López. “Clarity didn’t give us much time and it had to be ready in a very short period of time. That is why at that moment we did not have any time to think about the musical direction that we were going to have in the album “Auger explained about the album “Querido Rafael”, who is also the group’s main vocalist. True to the Vega. “We assigned a song to each one of us, related to some stage in Don Rafa’s life. Finally, each of us worked on a song and we framed it within the instrumentation we were using at that time, which was acoustic guitar ”.

Now, two years later, they got together again to create an album in which they managed to dedicate more time and add a more personal touch to each of the members. “In the second album, which we baptized ‘Volume 1 ′, we began what has been a journey of experimentation, searching for sounds and fitting the tastes of each one, being a bit progressive in the sense of what we are trying to do. That was the first project where we worked with more time ”, added Auger, who composes, plays guitar and sings on the songs. “You can see musically that this work is different from everything we had done previously and that was the moment when we really started to come together as a band.”

During those first years, until just before the start of the pandemic, the members of the Acoustic Rolling Band managed to understand each other more and spend more time together, especially by doing several tours together, which allowed each of them to get to know each other better and grow. a friendship between all. “That tour was very important for us, since we managed to create a very close environment. This is already a family, which can be seen by the affection, understanding and love we feel for each other “, detailed Rivera, who is a renowned singer-songwriter. “Of course, we also have our conflicts, but every time we have one, we come out stronger. In fact, there are families that don’t last seven years, like us, ”he mentioned while laughing.

New single

Recently, the Acoustic Rolling Band released the single “More alone”, which will be part of the repertoire of the concert. This song is very special for the members of the group because there is a clear evolution in their music, apart from the fact that it is the first time they have integrated the piano in their songs. “It is a song that started as a reflection on the paradox of the time we live in, which is that the more connected we are with technology, it really seems that we are more and more alone”mentioned Feliciano, the only female in the group and who stands out for her powerful voice. “This song also marks an important part of our history as a band, because a different instrument, the piano, was incorporated. The songs, new songs, which we are already working on, will have the piano chords incorporated into the music ”.

The musicians explained that at the concert at Bellas Artes de Santurce they will premiere two songs, including one called “Una noche de domingo”, which they will launch in January. As part of a prelude to the concert, they have worked several videos, which will be published on the pages of Instagram and Facebook of the group and that they will have interesting information on how they have prepared for the presentation, in addition to talking a little about the history of the band.
