The 7am news – Coronavirus in France: why the situation is considered “worrying”?

In France, the health authorities sound the alarm. At the heart of the holidays, do the French relax their vigilance and barrier gestures? In any case, the figures on the coronavirus epidemic are worrying. Indicators continue to deteriorate.

The health agency qualifies the situation as worrying: there are more and more new cases. These double every 18 days. First indicator in red: the incidence rate, i.e. the number of positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

A third of the departments are now above the vigilance threshold of 10. At the top, Paris, with a rate of 62, well above the alert threshold set at 50. But there is an explanation: the 406 positive cases detected in Ile-de-France airports are assigned to the capital.

Growing numbers of clusters

In second position, we find the Bouches-du-Rhône with an incidence rate multiplied by 2 in one week. Those are the 15-44 year olds who are the most contaminated, but the number of cases is also in sharp increase, nearly 50%, among those over 75. Other bad signs, ever more numerous clusters and the circulation of the virus is increasing more and more outside these clusters.

Sign of a less well-controlled spread of the virus, in the hospital the patients in intensive care are a little more numerous. This is also the case for hospitalizations for the fifth week in a row, and the under-40s are more numerous than the past few weeks.
