Khanh Hoa (VNA) – Attached to 4th Naval Zone 955 Brigade, HQ 561-Khanh Hoa 01 is Vietnam’s first hospital ship. Its function is to provide care and rescue to fishermen, islanders, and soldiers sick or victims of marine accidents residing in the island district of Truong Sa and on the platform. DK1.

HQ 561-Khanh Hoà 01 is Southeast Asia’s most modern hospital ship. Like other hospital ships in the world, its hull is painted white and it features a large red cross on each side. Pham Van An again:
“Our boat often operates in complicated weather conditions, with strong waves and high winds. Despite the difficulty of their mission, the crew members are all determined and dedicated.”
Ta Trung Thành, political commissioner of the boat, specifies:
“When the sea is very rough, we get seasick. Despite the difficulty of our task at such times, we prioritize the health of the sick and we continue our work. We rescued a fishing boat from Quang Ngai . It was a very difficult rescue operation. The whole crew finally received the necessary care and medication before setting off again. “

The captain of the hospital ship, Trân Van Ngoc, is a doctor. His most vivid memory is having operated, at night, on a fisherman suffering from an acute attack of appendicitis near the island of Nui Le. After the intervention, Trân Van Ngoc and his colleagues took turns all night and the following days with the fisherman to check his condition.
“We are helping fishermen who are victims of fishing accidents. The doctors on board must do everything to save the lives of patients whatever the conditions.”
The HQ 561-Khanh Hoa 01 was launched on April 26, 2012. Since that date, thousands of people residing on the Truong Sa archipelago have benefited from free examinations, treatment and medication. HQ 561-Khanh Hoa 01 has participated in several international maneuvers such as the multilateral naval exercise Komodo which brings together the navies of the ASEAN countries, and Russia, the United States, Japan, China, the ‘India, Australia,… As part of the Komodo 2014 organized from March 25 to April 16, 2014 in Indonesia, the HQ 561-Khanh Hoa 01 performed 3 surgeries and offered free consultations and medicines to thousands of people. ‘Indonesians.
