VfB Stuttgart – SC Freiburg (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: VfB not only lost 4-0 in Leipzig last weekend, but also lost striker Kalajdzic (shoulder injury) until the end of the year. The mood is therefore clouded. After the 2-1 win against Dortmund, the Freiburg team arrive with a tailwind.
STATISTICS: Last season Freiburg won both country duels with VfB, but ended up one place behind the Swabians in the final table. So far, the sports club has only achieved three Bundesliga victories against Stuttgart between November 1993 and November 1994.
PERSONAL: At Stuttgart, winger Coulibaly is probably available again after surviving the corona infection. Freiburg has to do without right-back Schmid (Corona case in the home environment). For him, Kübler should slip into the starting line-up.
SPECIAL: Last season, goalkeeper Müller with good performances played a major role in the fact that Freiburg won twice against Stuttgart. Now he is standing between the posts at VfB as the successor to Kobel, who has moved to Dortmund.
FSV Mainz 05 – SpVgg Greuther Fürth (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: Mainz started the season solidly with a win against Leipzig and a defeat in Bochum. The newcomer from Fürth is still without a win and is in the lower table after two games.
STATISTICS: This pairing has only existed twice in the Bundesliga. In the 2012/13 season the Mainz team lost their home game 1-0 and returned the favor in the second half of the season with a 3-0 win in Fürth. Of the 22 duels in the 2nd division, the Franks won 15, Mainz only got five wins.
PERSONAL: Mainz coach Svensson can draw on the full. Fürth has to do without defender Jung (knee surgery).
SPECIAL: It will be a very special game for the newcomer Stach from Mainz. The U21 European champion, who came from Fürth in the summer, is about to make his Bundesliga debut after the red ban has expired – and against his ex-club, of all places.
FC Augsburg – Bayer Leverkusen (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.)
SITUATION: Augsburg are still without their own goals this season. Leverkusen started with four points.
STATISTICS: FCA want to end their black series against Bayer 04 in the Bundesliga in the 21st attempt. In 20 games there were 13 defeats and seven draws for Augsburg.
PERSONAL: FCA coach Weinzierl has to do without the injured Gouweleeuw and Moravek. In addition to Alario and Bellarabi, Baumgartlinger is also missing at Bayer.
SPECIAL: Augsburg is resisting a bitter novelty. After three match days of a Bundesliga season, the club has never been without a goal of its own.
Arminia Bielefeld – Eintracht Frankfurt (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: Both teams are waiting for their first win of the season. Bielefeld started with two draws. Frankfurt has one point from the 0-0 win against Augsburg.
STATISTICS: Bielefeld did not get much against Frankfurt in the past few years. Arminia had their last win against Hessen in November 2006 (3-0). Last season Frankfurt won 5-1 in Bielefeld.
PERSONAL: Frankfurt still has to do without team captain Rode (after knee surgery) and right-back Touré, who lacks the necessary fitness after a tendon injury. Bielefeld is missing the blocked Schöpf (yellow-red).
SPECIAL: As in the previous season, Bielefeld is still without a defeat after the first two matchdays. Last season, however, it was four points. Afterwards, however, Arminia suffered seven defeats in a row from the 3rd match day – and managed to stay in class at the end of the season.
1. FC Köln – VfL Bochum (Saturday, 3.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: Both clubs started the season with one home win and one away defeat and are in the middle of the table with three points.
STATISTICS: Bochum is Cologne’s favorite opponent in the Bundesliga. FC celebrated 32 wins in 58 games. Especially in Cologne there was hardly anything to get for the Revierclub. Of 29 games, VfL only won one game in Müngersdorf: on April 18, 2004.
PERSONAL: The hosts have to do without Uth, Thielmann and Hübers. New arrival Kilian is in the squad. Bochum has to do without right-back Gamboa (arm injury), Bockhorn could play for him.
SPECIAL: The next time the doorbell rings a lot. 1. FC Köln scored 99 goals in 58 Bundesliga games against VfL Bochum. Former FC professionals Pierre Littbarski and Dieter Müller were the most successful against VfL with eleven goals each.
FC Bayern Munich – Hertha BSC (Saturday, 6.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: Bayern want to go into the international break with another home win. Hertha is already in crisis mode after two defeats.
STATISTICS: Most recently, Hertha was close in 2: 2 and 3: 4 against Bayern. The last Bundesliga victory for Berlin against Bayern was in 1977. Maier, Müller and Rummenigge played for Munich.
PERSONAL: Neuer, Lewandowski and Goretzka return to Bayern’s starting line-up after the cup break. Coman is also operational again. Boateng is probably not available at Hertha because of back problems. It is unclear whether coach Dardai will bring the new judges and Belfodil.
SPECIAL: A year ago Bayern and Hertha played a crazy game in Munich: Robert Lewandowski scored four times for Bayern at 4-3. The winning goal was a penalty in added time.
1. FC Union Berlin – Borussia Mönchengladbach (Sunday, 3.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: Union goes into the game with the elation of the European Cup qualification. In addition, they have been unbeaten in three competitions for seven competitive games. Gladbach has to show that the 0-4 shock against Leverkusen has no long-term effect.
STATISTICS: Borussia has never won in the Alte Försterei stadium. In the Bundesliga there was a 0: 2 and a 1: 1. Gladbach’s memories of the 2001 DFB Cup semi-final are also bad. Union made it into the final as a third division team on penalties.
PERSONAL: Gladbach has big injuries: Ginter, Lainer and Thuram are missing, the ailing Plea and Bensebaini can play. Union is missing the banned defender Friedrich. Kruse returns safely to the starting line-up on the offensive.
SPECIAL: Union enjoys his European Cup life also at the expense of Gladbach. If Kruse hadn’t scored against Leipzig in the last minute of the game last season, Borussia would be in the Conference League instead of the Iron.
VfL Wolfsburg – RB Leipzig (Sunday, 5.30 p.m.)
SITUATION: For the first time in more than ten years, VfL Wolfsburg is taking the lead in a game. Leipzig lost at the start in Mainz, but then convinced against VfB Stuttgart.
STATISTICS: The last four Bundesliga games between Wolfsburg and Leipzig ended in a draw. There is no other opponent in the Bundesliga that Leipzig has drawn as often as against VfL (five times).
PERSONAL: At Wolfsburg, the use of newcomer Waldschmidt is still questionable, otherwise only the long-term injuries are missing. Leipzig has to do without Henrichs, Angelino and Halstenberg.
SPECIAL: Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig have met in a competitive game for the seventh time since summer 2019, and there was no pairing more often in this period.
