Emma Ekenman-Fernis did not allow herself to be diverted from her line. Her last seven meter was also on. However, their final point could not alleviate the disappointment among the THC handball players. At the end of the year they suffered their fourth defeat, a clear one. Despite their efforts, they were defeated by Dortmund 30:36 (13:19). In 2020, the Thuringians will finish fifth, far from the top positions. The game planned for Wednesday at Neckarsulm has to be postponed due to a corona case with the host.

“That was a class difference. We didn’t have the slightest chance, ”commented THC-Trainer critically and soberly. His counterpart André Fuhr did not want to leave the class difference standing. However, the BVB coach emphasized a very convincing performance of his team and praised, among other things, how patiently the attacks were sometimes played out on the basis of the good cover work.

Great respect

In view of the quality, Herbert Müller spoke of the opponent in advance with great respect. His team never seemed to be able to take it off properly. Not least because she never got into a run that would have been needed to shake the top favorite without losing points. Driven by Alina Grijseels and her Oranjestars, he reeled off his game and celebrated his eighth win in the eighth league duel.

The team with the better goalkeeper will win, said THC goalkeeper Marie Davidsen in advance. To her regret, despite her good start with three held balls, it was Rinka Duijndam on BVB’s side, who fended off half a dozen throws up to half time. Since Isabell Roch scratched another seven meter from Marketa Jerabkova, the advantage lay with the guests, who punished almost every THC error through Kelly Dulfer and Co.

The fact that the Thuringians gave three attacks in the first four minutes also turned into a mortgage after a quick 1: 3, which they were unable to repay despite a good first quarter of an hour. To make matters worse, the Thuringians managed almost nothing in the 15th and 20th minutes, while the Dortmund women, who were already more dynamic and confident playing, did pretty much everything. With a 5-0 run, they split to 15: 8.

While BVB’s lead grew, the uncertainty about THC seemed to grow. After all, he had been able to shorten the game with Asli Iskit with two goals before the break. Not enough, however, to have high hopes with a six-goal deficit after 30 minutes against the currently strongest team in the league.

Müller changes team

A lot should have come together, Müller suspected, in order to be able to surprise himself, but also Dortmund. The coach tried a lot, switched to several positions after 20 minutes. From then on, Petra Blazek stood in the THC goal, who fished away a ball at the beginning of the second half. All too often, however, the Austrian was left alone by her defense. “You have to tackle the defense a lot better from the start. We missed that, ”said Müller.

Since the THC could not increase its throwing effectiveness after the break, what had to come came. After 43 minutes, BVB was unassailable with ten goals (27:17) and took the victory home with ease. “You simply can’t afford to make that many mistakes against a team like Dortmund,” summarized THC captain Lydia Jakubisova.
