That’s why the sky is so red

You may have stopped and noticed the glowing sky lately. If not, you may have gotten it through the many photos that appear in the instagram feed.

There is no doubt that sunsets attract us, and that is perhaps not so strange.

Lenticularisskyer

The sunset now in the winter is perhaps even more prominent than in summer. On-duty meteorologist Elin Tronvoll says, however, that there is no such special explanation for the phenomenon.

– The reason is simply that the sun is low in the sky, so it will be a long path for the light, she says.

Tronvoll also adds that it is absolutely necessary that clouds do not get in the way of the sun.

She emphasizes that it is those who stay in Eastern Norway, and some places in Western Norway, who are most spoiled with beautiful sunsets during the day.

Not only is the sky on the horizon nice to look at, but also the clouds are exceptionally nice through the afternoon hours.

Lens clouds, or “lenticularis clouds”, can be experienced in many colors.

– Lens clouds occur when the sun reflects in the cloud, and depends entirely on the particles in the cloud, says the meteorologist.

White Christmas

Tronvoll also says that the sun turns around next Tuesday and that it is difficult to predict whether we can expect more colorful sunsets towards Christmas.

What she is sure of, however, is that many will have a white Christmas.

– It seems that many can get snow for Christmas. We are facing a cooler period, all over the country. There will be some periods of snowfall, and where there has already been snow, it will remain, says Tronvoll.

She is aware that the snowfall will spread out, but also that some are luckier than others. Or, it is asked how to look at it.

For those who want snow for Christmas Eve itself, it is the northerners who can cheer the loudest.

– In Troms and Finnmark there will be a lot of snow. Also in the inner parts of Nordland and generally the inner parts further south. In Trøndelag, I think most have rained down in recent days, she says.

Along the coast and in Eastern Norway, the snow will be more scattered, but with the cold air moving from the north, it is at least suitable for white-covered slopes.
