That’s how it goes with the cardboard house of Ik Depart-David and Gine

After the bad news that their house was actually not much more than a few cardboard walls with a too heavy roof, there is now finally good news for the couple: there is a stone wall around the house. Construction started last Friday. The people from Brabant have found someone who will fix it for a “reasonable price” and they will also get something back from the insurance. Once the wall is standing, the roof will also be considered. “The roof will be renovated as soon as it is dry for a longer period. That will be by summer. Next summer our house will be like a house,” they say on the AVROTROS site.

The two cannot yet live off their bed & breakfast and have therefore both taken a job next to it. Gine works in home care fifteen hours a week and David does everything to make his massage practice a success. “Hopefully we will get more bookings, because that is still the reason that we started here with a Casa Rural.”

Despite all the setbacks, the couple remain positive. “We have sometimes thought, and sometimes we still think: are we all going to make it? We will not be happy anymore. But then we will take a good look around us; the mountains and the sun, well… and then we will know we all will be fine. It’s just material, health is much more important. Yet they do know that if they had known the setbacks in advance, they would not have taken this step.

The positive David and Gine remind us a little of the Scheetjes. They moved to Bonaire a few years ago for a mini adventure golf course. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. And yet they always remained positive. Now Hans and Karin get their own reality series. We spoke to the couple.
