A new form created chaos at the border. It is mandatory for travelers, including those passing through, to fill out the form.
A “declaration of entry and transit”, which the Ministry of Health advised to fill out in advance in order to accelerate the border crossing, was probably partly responsible for the chaotic conditions caused by the mega-jam in front of the Karawanken and Loibl tunnels. The form is part of the regulation on border controls that has been in force since Saturday.
It is compulsory for travelers to fill out the form if they come from countries with no stable pandemic situation, enter or travel through it. It is permitted to travel through Austria without stopping, but those affected must confirm this. Otherwise, they have to commit to a ten-day home quarantine, unless they can present a negative corona test.
When asked, the APA’s Ministry of Health explained yesterday, Saturday, that Germans who travel to Germany from Croatia also have to fill out the declaration. The travelers must either undertake to pass through without stopping at the Austrian border. Exceptions are car breakdowns, short refueling and toilet breaks, said a spokesman. However, if you have planned a longer stopover in Austria, a negative corona test or quarantine is required.
