Baden-Württemberg – On New Year’s Eve, a number of people posted that they observed a pink-red veil in the sky from the southwest. A meteorologist explains what it is:

It’s been a year full of ups and downs: December 31, 2022 is finally coming to an end. We had to swallow a lot this year. All the better when you can ring in the New Year with good friends and family. But what is it then? On New Year’s Eve, a pink-red sky lights up Baden-Württemberg! Many people are irritated by the spectacle of the sky. An expert explains:

Weather phenomenon in Baden-Württemberg – that’s why the sky shone pink and red on New Year’s Eve

“As if there was a comet in the sky,” writes one Twitter user of the sky over Stuttgart. In the late afternoon of New Year’s Eve, countless pictures are lined up on social media that show the Baden-Württemberg sky in a pink-red glow. The explanation is very simple, according to meteorology expert Thomas Schuster Stuttgart news reported.

“The sunset in connection with the veil clouds, which are very high in the atmosphere, i.e. at a height of eight to ten kilometers, is responsible for this,” the meteorologist told the newspaper. He’s an expert from the German meteorological service, so he knows what he’s talking about. Short waves of solar radiation would be filtered out, it says in Stuttgart newsthe long ones got stuck in the ice clouds and created the effect.

Pink clouds over Baden-Württemberg – the weather phenomenon can also occur here

But that is not all! As expert Schuster further explains, the phenomenon can be seen locally wherever veil clouds are located. This could then be delayed up to 20 minutes due to the sunset. The phenomenon can be seen from Ulm to Augsburg, from Lake Chiemsee to the Sauerland, says the meteorologist in Stuttgart news quoted.

No matter how many times, where and when the celestial phenomenon appears: on New Year’s Eve 2022 it created a spectacular show high above the southwest! “The sky is pink,” a Twitter page posted several hours before the end of the year. By the way, as the centennial calendar predicts, the weather in 2023 could be really violent – cold and brutal summer threatens then!(fas)
