Thailand’s Daily Covid Cases Reach 21,066, the Highest in ASEAN

Daily case Covid-19 in Thailand reached 21,066 as of Wednesday (6/10). This number is the highest number in Southeast Asia.

Quoting data from John Hopkins University, the figure in Thailand is the highest in the ASEAN region. However, the daily graph of Covid-19 cases in the country is declining.

Previously, Thailand broke a record additional daily positive cases of 23,418 on August 13.

As of Thursday (7/10) morning, the total positive cases of Covid-19 in Thailand reached 1,678,297. The country’s total death toll stands at 17,418, sourced from Worldometers.

Following Thailand, daily positive cases in the Philippines reached 9,847 cases. Furthermore, Malaysia is in third place in ASEAN with 9,380 figures.

Vietnam is in fourth place with 4,363. Singapore, whose cases continue to break records, is fifth with 3,577.

Indonesia is ranked seventh with a score of 1,484, a predicate below Myanmar which ranks sixth with a score of 1,717. Myanmar itself is being discussed by many as a result of the power conflict between the military junta and the country’s shadow government.

In dealing with the spread of Covid-19, the Thai government plans to use the Covid-19 drug molnupiravir, which is produced by the pharmaceutical company Merck.

Director-General of Thailand’s Department of Medical Services Somsak Akksilp, told Reuters that his country was currently working on an agreement to purchase the antiviral drug molnupiravir.

The Covid-19 pill developed by Merck & Co is claimed to be effective in reducing the death rate or hospitalization rate for patients who are at risk of serious illness due to corona virus infection.

Not only Thailand, Malaysia is also in talks to get the experimental antiviral pill molnupiravir. Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said his party was starting negotiations for the pill.
