The highest Thai general promises a major clean-up in the commercial activities of the army. That decision comes after the mass murder by a Thai soldier, more than a week ago. The man shot 29 people after a fight over a real estate deal with his senior officer.
The incident has drawn attention to the commercial activities of the Thai army, which, according to Reuters news agency, account for a billion baht (around thirty million euros) per year.
Part of the property is now being transferred to the Ministry of Finance. This concerns around 160,000 hectares of land, including hotels, golf clubs and martial arts arenas.
Mall
Earlier this month, a soldier shot his supervisor and his mother-in-law to death and then set up a massacre in a shopping mall in the town of Nakhon Ratchasima. He probably did so out of anger about the real estate conflict with his boss.
