Textile artist Annele Slišāne’s collection of audio stories “100 Deces for Latvia” is published / Article

“100 decks for Latvia” available On the website of Latvian Radio and the most popular podcast streaming platforms.

The stories of textile artist and weaver Annele Slišāne for the centenary of the country have been created in the project # 100decents to Latvia. Initially, they were woven on 100-year-old looms in 100 decks from various materials – flowers, plant stems, various fibers, textiles and also recyclable materials. According to the author, the first deck was woven from the verbena of the witch’s hall. The final one, using bread packaging fasteners to symbolically honor the Latvian value – rye bread. Later, the works were published in a book, they are also available for the deaf and hard of hearing in sign language translation, as well as a special tactile book in Braille. Well deck stories will also be available in audio format.

“It is an integral part of Latvian culture – the Latgalian language, which with our dialects makes our language even more colorful and richer!

The author of the stories, Annele Slišāne, admits: “Weaving is a way of thinking and understanding of the world order, it is a way of life and love, meditation and painting on looms. If I removed the numbering and put the stories in chronological order, I would get a biography about my childhood, living in the miraculous flower meadows of Latgale. Natural materials brought me to myself – my childhood and my essence. ” Slišāne is pleased that the stories will be available to the blind and those who find it difficult to concentrate on reading.

“100 Deci to Latvia” is the second podcast of original content created by Latgale multimedia studio. A year ago it was dedicated to contemporary Latgalian literature recording “Puslopys” – Conversations with authors about writing, language and life in general.

From December 7 to 11, Latvian Radio 1 will have its premiere in five readings in Latgalian from Ilze Sperga’s debut collection of stories “Dzeiveiba”, which in 2014 received the Latgalian Culture of the Year Award “Boņuks” for the best performance in Latgalian literature. The prose work in audio format is created under the direction of director Kristaps Rasims, while the strong stories of the strong Latgale will be listened to in the voice of actress Inga Misāne-Grasberga.
