Texas Governor Greg Abbott Signs Bill That Will Grant Millions of Dollars for Border Security | Univision 62 Austin KAKW

AUSTIN, Texas.- Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill granting nearly $ 1.8 million to strengthen border security.

According to the Texas Tribune, Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez said people have been arriving in unusually high numbers in recent days. It was reported that there are around 8,400 immigrants waiting to enter the border.

Abbott again attacked the Biden administration for the current situation in Del Rio. “It is the job of the federal government to secure our border, but the Biden administration has not done its job,” he said during the press conference.

Abbott has criticized the administration of President Joe Biden and has called the arrival of immigrants to the border a crisis. He also highlighted the efforts made by the program launched last March, cataloged as “Operation Lone Star” in an effort to combat human trafficking at the border. With this program, officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety are now involved in more than day-to-day operations in order to stop illegal activity at the border.

Contract awarded for the construction of the wall

This Thursday it was announced that state officials awarded a contract to supervise the construction of a barrier along the border between Texas and Mexico.

The Texas Facilities Commission reportedly voted to approve the contract, worth up to $ 11 million. In June, Gov. Greg Abbott, who has criticized President Joe Biden’s immigration policies, announced a crowdfunding effort to pay for the wall and other barriers.
