As part of their collaboration, the producer of resin 3D printing materials Tethon3D and the global chemical company Showa Denko KK. are developing a UV resin for the additive manufacturing of ceramics.

Showa Denko brings decades of experience in the inorganic, ceramic and chemical industries to this table, while Tethon has a proven track record in UV resins filled.

Trent AllenCEO of Tethon 3D, explains that “ some ceramic additive manufacturing solutions have shrinkage issues that limit part size and often create unwanted deformations. This material and this partnership sets a new standard around material properties and reflects the original intent of the ceramic additive manufacturing industry.. »

This high-purity alumina material is the first to result from their collaboration. Its load is 25% higher than other major competitors in the industry. For those who don’t know, high purity alumina (HPA = high purity alumina) is a form of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) with a degree of purity greater than 99.99% or 4N+. Alumina is a ceramic material with exceptional hardness, chemical resistance and thermal stability. In this specific development, the ceramic filler is greater than 75% by volume and 90% by weight. Due to this higher loading, the shrinkage in x, y and z is less than 10% after sintering.

« We expect to see strong growth in the area of ceramic additives over the next decade and our team at Showa Denko America has been looking to enter the additive market“, declares Masao Horayama, president of Showa Denko America. ” We are very excited to launch this first additive engineered alumina material and believe that working with an experienced materials team like Tethon is a suitable way to bring the expertise of Showa Denko in materials. »
