There is much to suggest that it is the Iphone 13 you should buy if it is a new iPhone you are looking for right now. This year, Apple has made it relatively easy to choose the Iphone. Just as the Iphone 13 Pro and Iphone 13 Pro Max offer the same features in terms of performance, cameras and so on and only differ in size, so the Iphone 13 and Iphone 13 Mini have the same set of features.
Common to the entire series is the overall design, that all four have an OLED screen, narrower sensor panel, the new video function cinematic mode and 5G.
The most common reason why we change phones today is perhaps that the screen on the previous one has broken, because we keep our phones longer and longer simply because the performance steps and the development of camera technology do not progress as fast as a few years ago.
Good cameras, durable screen
Still, of course, things happen. For many, the camera is the most important function in a new phone and when I compare in a little shady lighting with a phone as new as last year’s Iphone 12 Pro, the new Iphone 13 is not only better than that but often comparable to the sister model, the more expensive Iphone 13 Pro . They both give noticeably better images, for example, portraits in dim lighting become significantly better and the face appears much clearer. Then, of course, the difference is much greater when you compare with a few years older mobile, Iphone or a phone from another manufacturer than Apple. I still think that the biggest quality difference in recent years on the iPhone side was when the night mode was introduced in the Iphone 11 Pro and we could suddenly take better pictures in the dark even with an Iphone.
Of course, the Iphone 13 not only has what’s new in this year’s models, but also brings with it a more durable screen, ceramic shield which was introduced in last year’s Iphone and significantly reduces the risk of the screen breaking when you drop the phone. There is also wireless charging including support for Magsafe, Apple Pay, it is water resistant, has Face ID with fast and secure face recognition to unlock the phone or identify you in Mobile Bank ID.
Ios is getting messier
So far, I have mostly related the new phone with other, previous Iphones, but it does not hurt to point out what options are available. Iphone still does not support very fast charging, we lack the extreme zoom that many Android phones have and if it is something you value highly, there are Android phones that offer all this at a price far below what Apple charges for Iphone 13. Only you dare to take the step. and that step is not very large today. IOS and Android are similar in many areas and although there is a learning threshold to overcome when switching, none of the systems are now more generally easier to use than the other. Year after year, Ios has been given added features and has become more difficult to see, while Android has been given a refined design, a bit so that the two systems now meet in the middle.
Apple and Iphone have, it should be remembered, an extensive flora of apps and services you are used to as an iPhone user and include Imessage, Facetime and Icloud as well as other functions that are especially useful if you have several products from Apple and also family, friends and colleagues use Iphone. A big news in this edition of Iphone, and available in the entire Iphone 13 series from Mini to Max, is what is called cinematic video mode. This function uses the cameras and can automatically shift focus between the different people in your movie. In addition, the function means that afterwards, when the film is saved, you can change who should be in focus. It’s innovative, but the result is seldom quite good. Focus with an effect that blurs the background is worse here than when it comes to still images and often the blur around the person in focus is slightly flaming and not completely natural or accurate.
Aluminum quartz
On the outside, the Iphone 13 consists of an aluminum frame that makes it lighter in weight than the more expensive Iphone Pro models, but that is not necessarily a disadvantage. Especially if you use a cover for your phone, you will in practice only notice the benefits of that choice of material. There are speakers at the bottom and it together with the upper speaker at the top above the screen gives good sound the times you want to listen without headphones. The headphone connector is long gone from the Iphone and here wireless or connection via the same lightning connector that you charge the phone via.
No new Iphone has ever felt slow, as Apple is in a position where they can control both hardware and software. It is Apple’s own A15 Bionic chip that drives all phones in the Iphone 13 series and it does so seemingly without any problems. Apple has also proven to be good at updating its phones for many years with the latest system, so we expect the power of the A15 to be enough to power the Iphone 13 series not only today but for many years to come.

What do I miss compared to the Pro models?
Marginally sharper graphics performance, Lidar depth gauge, optical zoom and macro mode in the camera, faster screen refresh rate. These are the main differences.
Should I upgrade?
It is only if your previous Iphone is maybe 3-4 years old that you will notice a clear difference.
What colors is it in?
Apple calls the colors pink, blue, red, midnight and star shine. We would call the last two black and white respectively.
An alternative
More cheaper
You can get fast screen, good performance and super fast charging in a mobile for cheaper money, but then it is an Android. Oneplus 9 or Xiaomi Mi 11 for example.
