The US electric car maker Tesla delivered more vehicles than expected in the first quarter, despite the strains caused by the corona crisis. In the three months to the end of March, around 88,400 cars were brought to customers, as Tesla announced on Thursday after the US market closed.

Analysts had expected significantly less. The stock initially rose by ten percent.

Tesla had delivered 63,000 cars in the same period last year. In the first quarter of 2020, the Elon Musk company produced 102,672 vehicles. The majority was 87,282 Model 3, with which Tesla wants to establish itself in the mass market.
