Tesla Unveils China-Made Model 3 Sedan at Beijing Trade Fair, Prioritizing Asian Market Expansion

Tesla Unveils Restyled Model 3 Sedan at Trade Fair in Beijing

BEIJING, Sept 2 (Reuters) – Tesla showcased its newly restyled Model 3 sedan, manufactured in China, to the public for the first time at the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) in Beijing. The launch of the revamped Model 3 comes just a day after its release in several countries.

The American automaker presented a striking flame red version of the vehicle, marking the first update to its mass-market car lineup since the successful launch of the Model Y in 2020. This move highlights Tesla’s increasing reliance on the Chinese market, where it is in fierce competition with BYD for market share.

The China-made Model 3 is being produced at Tesla’s Shanghai plant and will not only cater to the domestic market but will also be exported to other regions including Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Some of the new features, such as a rear display for back-seat passengers, appear to be specifically tailored to Chinese buyers.

During the trade fair, Tesla sales staff were on hand to answer questions from interested buyers. One visitor, a 22-year-old university student named Guo, expressed his enthusiasm for the car’s debut. He particularly appreciated the upgrades to the audio system and the rear display, stating that “people in the back seat may not feel so bored while riding in the car.”

However, not all attendees were convinced. Hu, who visited the Tesla booth, stated that she saw no special reason to purchase a Tesla as there are now numerous options available in the market for new energy vehicles.

In addition to the trade fair in Beijing, Tesla has announced that it will also showcase the new Model 3 at the Munich auto show, which is set to open on Tuesday.
