Tesla Model Y Tops European Sales Charts Despite Falling Demand: September 2023 Analysis

Despite falling demand, Tesla Model Y is the best-selling new car in Europe in September 2023.

According to the data of the analytical agency JATO Dynamics, Tesla Model Y has realized sales of 29,309 units, which is 1% less compared to the same month of 2022. The electric car overtook the Peugeot 208 (22,188 units, +13%) and the Renault Clio (20,088 units, +26%) to become the best-selling new car in Europe overall.

Among the brands, the leaders are Volkswagen with 117,431 sales in May

Volkswagen Golf (19,441, +20%), Dacia Sandero (19,265, +8%), Fiat 500 (18,271, +15%), Ford Puma (18,063, +23%), Opel/Vauxhall Corsa (16,977), Volkswagen T-Roc (16,935. +4%) and Nissan Qashqai (16,404, +3%).

Total demand for new cars in Europe increased by 10% to a level of 1,155,648 units. 186,380 of these were fully electric cars, which equates to 16.1% of the total market and is 13% more than in September 2022.

Sales of electric vehicles have increased overall, but they remain well below those of gas and diesel models.

From the beginning of 2023, until the end of September, 1,465,249 new 100% electric cars were sold in Europe, or 47% more compared to the first nine months of last year, reports JATO Dynamics, cited by auto-press.net.
