The curtain falls on the highly anticipated Battery Day, the event announced days ago by Tesla and held yesterday at the Fremont headquarters, and Elon Musk is talking about himself again. According to the latest statements reported in the American press, the Palo Alto carmaker has filed a lawsuit against the administration of Donald Trump on US government-imposed duties related to imports of a series of components used for the construction of the electric cars that the US company produces in China.
According to some American newspapers, Tesla filed legal action to Us Court of International Trade of New York, outlawing the incriminated duties and claiming compensation, obviously including interest, equal to the amount paid. In particular, Tesla would like to avoid paying 25% tariffs on Chinese-made computers and touch screens used in the Model 3 dashboard.
The American giant claims that the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, a central part of the government’s strategy in the trade war against China, have a strong impact onincrease in car production costs, causing enormous economic damage to the Silicon Valley company. It is therefore open war between the president of the United States and the founder of Tesla, a clash of the titans which reveals all the harshness of Trump’s foreign and domestic policy, which sees China as the “number one” enemy capable of destabilizing the American economy and democracy. With the presidential election at the gates and the escalation of the political confrontation, Musk’s move takes on even greater force. All that remains is to wait for Trump’s reaction, which, given the character, will not be long in coming.
