A problem with Tesla’s app left thousands of drivers unable to use their cars on Friday afternoon.

Small technical problem for the owners of a Tesla. Dozens of messages surfaced on social media that they were unable to use their car. The problem lay in the app, which is used as a key for the car. But if the app doesn’t work, the car won’t drive either.

In one tweet, Tesla boss Elon Musk replied ‘checking’. A little later, he said the app would work again.

The problems were big if we are to believe the tweets. “I’m stuck here, an hour from my house, when I normally use my cell phone to start my car.”

Experts indicate that just using an app to start a car is asking for trouble. “Then you trust that the servers will always and everywhere work 100%”, it sounds at the BBC. “Of course that is not the case.”

“I’m sorry,” Musk tweeted. “We are going to take steps so that this cannot happen again.”
