The electric car manufacturer Tesla is continuing its expansion. After the group moved from Elon Musk already located in Nevada and Shanghai, two more Tesla factory locations were announced last year, namely Berlin-Brandenburg and Austin, Texas. As the news portal Austin Business Journal recently found out, another industrial facility is already planned at the Gigafactory Texas, but not much is known about its purpose.

Announcement of the gigafactory in Austin, Texas
In July 2020, Tesla announced that the electric car pioneer would be building a new gigafactory in the Del Valle community, which is part of Travis County in Austin, Texas. It is planned that the Tesla Cybertruck and Tesla Semi will be built here. However, the production of the Tesla Model 3 and Y is also planned. The construction of the new production facility should be completed by the end of this year. In March 2021, group leader Musk was already beating the drum through his favorite format Twitter to find employees for the Texas Gigafabrik. 10,000 people would be needed for this in 2022.

Project “Bobcat”
A new industrial facility is now planned right next to the Gigafactory, which has been called the “Bobcat Project” until now. However, it is not yet known exactly what it is. Tesla submitted the projects required for the planned system to the Austin Business Journal on April 30, 2021. So far, however, the move has not been commented on by the city of Austin or the electric car manufacturer. However, a drone flight over the site, which can be viewed on YouTube, shows initial preparations on the site, which could indicate another industrial building.
This is not entirely surprising, however, as Tesla owns a lot more land around the site of the gigafactory. Many more buildings can be built here. As a source told the US news portal, one of them could be created for Musk’s space company SpaceX. However, what exactly the Bobcat project is about will only become apparent over time.
